Follow me over to Boyce Thompson Arboretum, Scopes, Scorps & Stars Oh My!
You can spend the entire day June 25, 2011 with extended evening hours at Boyce Thompson Arboretum.
Nature walks include a geology tour beginning at 8:30 am followed by a butterfly walk at 9:30 am.
In the picnic area that evening will be live music then a black-light scorpion walk after dark and then stargazing to follow!
Bring your own BBQ, picnic or takeout dinner into the picnic area to enjoy acoustic guitar jazz by Rudy & Bob Garcia, sharing the stage is Uno-Dos.
Make sure to bring a flashlight or two — and stick around for the 8:00 p.m. scorpion walk lead by BTA volunteers Dave Oberpriller and Joe Marsala.
They’ll use ultra-violet blacklights to seek out scorpions around the trails after dark, while talking about scorpion life cycles – and dispelling a few myths about these ancient, unloved critters. When that’s over, walk back up to the main parking lot to stargaze, viewing seasonal celestial phenomena and learning a new constellation or two with members of the East Valley Astronomy Club after 9:00 p.m.
